Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Ownership of the Historic Brown Mansion

The Coffeyville Historical Society is proud to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the ownership of the Historic Brown Mansion. The mansion was sold to the society by Violet Brown Kohler, daughter of W.P. and Nancy Brown, in April 1973 with the stipulation that the Mansion be open to the public and the original oriental rugs remain in place. The society is honored that Mrs. Kohler entrusted them to preserve and share the beautiful Brown Mansion for the last 50 years as a museum.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Brown Mansion is a three-story, 16-room
home that has long awed visitors to Coffeyville. It is situated in a commanding position atop a
hill and features first and second-story verandas, an ornate portico, and other breathtaking
features that have earned it the nickname "Brown Mansion". Visitors can explore the two-story
entry, living room, parlor, music room, library, solarium, dining room, billiard room, kitchen,
maid's quarters, five bedrooms, three full baths, and a ballroom on the third floor. The full
basement houses the butler's quarters, laundry, heating system, walk-in-icebox, wine cellar, and
storage rooms.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the ownership of the Brown Mansion, the Coffeyville Historical
Society will be hosting multiple events throughout the year. The events will include a murder
mystery dinner, a masquerade ball, a bourbon tasting, and more.
